Aye Carumba...not a happy camper

When this is the most important thing in your life, that and passing the final in driver's ed; then it is not surprising that a sidelining injury makes one not so happy.

After two weeks of rest and 2 lb weight rehab, according to one orthopedic specialist, we find out from the shoulder expert that there is a fracture on the growth plate in Doug's left shoulder. Another two weeks of completely nothing. No practice, no lifting at volleyball conditioning and another visit back to the orthopedic, most likely followed by two weeks of rehab. Luckily he didn't rip anything or tear the rotator cuff, that would have most likely resulted in surgery. Not too serious, unless, again you eat, sleep and breathe volleyball. So we'll miss at least 2 tournaments, maybe 3 but he'll be healed before the high school season. This might be what holds him back from varsity, but most of his buddies will probably play j.v. again because of the large number of seniors that are remaining from last year.

A word of advice....don't ask how volleyball is for the next couple weeks. You'll only be subjected to the eye rolling and constant complaining from Doug, who is not the happy camper.

Tell Doug to hang in there. If he overdoes it now, it will mean staying out of volleyball for a lot longer than 2 weeks. It will be worth the wait if he lets that shoulder heal completely. Wish I could tell you that you will recover from the moaning and groaning so easily. ;)
